India Bans PUBG and Over 100 Additional Chinese Apps (techcrunch.com) 12

India has banned more than 100 additional apps with linkage to China including popular mobile game PUBG citing cybersecurity concerns as geopolitical tension between the two neighboring nations continues to rise. From a report: On Wednesday, India's IT Ministry ordered to ban 118 apps that it said were "prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order." The move will help "safeguard the interests of crores (tens of millions) of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security, and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace," the ministry said. The move comes months after New Delhi banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, which counted India as its biggest international market, UC Browser, and UC News. Among the new apps that have been banned today include Baidu, WeChat Work, Tencent Weiyun, Rise of Kingdoms, APUS Launcher, Tencent Weiyun, VPN for TikTok, Mobile Taobao, Youko, Sina News, CamCard, as well as a miniature version of PUBG.

Oh no! Now what will iOS users play?!

For those unaware, after banning Fortnite from the App Store, Apple decided to start heavily promoting PUBG [twitter.com].

And now Indian iOS users won't even have that.

(Although from what I know, iOS isn't terribly popular in India anyway, so it's probably not that big a deal. Although I wonder if Fortnite would be hit too because it's part-owned by a Chinese company?)

  • The open, global internet was fun while it lasted. This is the beginning of the end.

I think the great firewall of China was the beginning of the end. Then we got more with the crap that has happened in Turkey, Iran, etc. Now with the US threatening bans on apps, India actually doing it, etc. - we are well into the middle game.
    • It was only bound to last as long as the powers that be were ignorant of it and its potential. That applies both to governments and corporations mind you. Both censorship and over monetization have ruined what was a wonderful experiment.

  • Once the US chose to stand against China, other countries Are deciding that now is a good time to do so as well. Proof? Let's see how long until African nations reject China.

  • Yes my question is, Is PUBG Mobile, A Battle Royal game really ban because there are many countries which banned the game for its additive nature but the people are still playing the game by some hacks available on Internet. These hacks includes VPN. Yes, the VPN unblock the ban in the country and user can play the game in their mobile phone and PCs. Take a look on the article below. https://gagsterr.com/how-to-pl... • on the same day the Indian government was also complaining about being censored on social media.
