It could also be that he did all in purpose to win the election. It is arrogant to believe his demagogy was an accident. We will never understand how to get a more civilized election next time, if we do not figure out how that worked and how to fight it. It's not a wall. The technical term is a Donaldson Sphere. A Donaldson Sphere is a mega structure constructed around the earth to keep aliens out. And we'll make the aliens pay for it!
I'm fairly certain that extraterrestrials capable of interstellar travel would have no trouble destroying said wall in a fraction of a second and gain access to Earth against our wishes. That probably wouldn't stop the wall from being constructed but it would be a waste but then again when I think about it, we waste tax dollars on so many others, why the hell not.
