Chromebook 'Nearby Share' to Get 'Self Share' to Send Files to Our Own Devices (chromestory.com) 14

Google is tweaking the Nearby Share feature to allow users to share files to their own devices. The new feature called 'Self Share' is now under development. Dinsan Francis writes via Chrome Story: Google recently launched a new feature called Nearby Share. Similar to Apple's AirDrop, Nearby Share allows users to send files to devices nearby. Building on this feature, Google is adding 'Self Share', a new addition to Nearby Share. Self Share helps you send files between your own devices using the Nearby Share method. [...] When this new feature is ready, you will see the "Send to Your Devices" option in the Nearby Share menu.

  • unless like airdrop it can share without internet its kind of useless

this should be possible with simple and anonymous Bluetooth for the key and Peer to Peer wifi for the data

    • I remember way back Windows phone allowed you to send files using BT (a little slow). I don't know if this is possible in Android or there are third-party apps for this.
      • I have shared pics over bluetooth between Android devices before. Sharing between Apple and Android doesn't work, I'm assuming because Apple don't do that sort of thing.
        • It's been a while, but I remember using Bluetooth file sharing on a Mac probably 15+ years ago.

          • Probably on a Mac, but iPhones won't share files with Android devices over bluetooth. (Unless something has changed recently, which is possible).

Airdrop is a nightmare , even if you set it to contacts only. The ability to share between devices, using cut and paste, is much more useful.

When I share *from* Android to any computer, the best I've found is this: https://f-droid.org/en/package... [f-droid.org]

I haven't found yet an easy way to do this from a computer. It seems to always require manually opening firewall ports...

  • Google is adding 'Self OWN', a new addition to Nearby Share. Self OWN helps you send TRACKING DATA between your own devices using the Nearby Share method.

  • Hello. I will be very happy to help you and recommend a great mature gay chat site for dating a wide variety of men. By the way, many people want to try something new in a relationship, and a smart and beautiful partner can be an original find for you. Now I also communicate on this dating site and I really like it.
  • This is why it's impossible to learn a new language. Explain to me the definition of "self" that modifies the definition of "share".

    Split it into one piece.
    Divide it amongst one person.
    Send it away to yourself.
