Blacklisted Chinese telecoms equipment giant Huawei is in early-stage talks with some U.S. telecoms companies about licensing its 5G network technology to them, a Huawei executive told Reuters on Friday. Vincent Pang, senior vice president and board director at the company said some firms had expressed interest in both a long-term deal or a one-off transfer, declining to name or quantify the companies.
"There are some companies talking to us, but it would take a long journey to really finalize everything," Pang explained on a visit to Washington this week. "They have shown interest," he added, saying conversations are only a couple of weeks old and not at a detailed level yet.

They don't have a lot of choice.
If they ignore the patents then they can be sued in US courts, and courts of other countries can be petitioned to block their infringing products. China may decide to cut off their supply lines too.
If they don't licence they will remain two years or more behind Chinese companies in the global 5G market. Maybe they can hold the US back by keeping it on 4G but the rest of the world isn't going to wait for them.
And if they don't licence they it will be a great excuse for Huawei

Incidentally, if they license, they will also license the firmware and any potential (mythical) backdoors in there. That makes the whole thing utterly hilarious.

Well, strong delusions ("...the USA is the most advanced country on planet earth...") coma at a steep price. One is nicely demonstrated by this story. Another one is an amplification effect: If you think you are great, you fail to look for problems to fix and become even less great.

Force them to manufacture it here, disallow Chinese ownership of their US subsidiaries, and stuff those subsidiaries to the gills with NSA and CIA agents. Then, after a couple of years, just start making your own version of the same thing. Give them a taste of their own medicine.

That's the globalist view of the issue. The nationalist view is that US companies will see writing on the wall and start diversifying their manufacturing base to other countries. Which is what they're already starting to do, scaring China shitless. China's only hope right now is that someone inept (or corrupt/compromised, like Biden) replaces Trump in 2020, and they can force the US to abandon the trade war, and return to the status quo. Because their entire economy is set up for growth. Even slowing growth could very easily turn into a recession on a scale the world has never seen, and once the gravy train stops, investors will start heading for the door all at once, further exacerbating the situation. China is still a pretty poor country. A recession will throw a billion or so people into abject poverty, which, after they've tasted somewhat elevated standard of living, means social unrest becomes pretty much inevitable. Part of the attack on Huawei was to the western options being largely inferior in performance. Unfortunately they are ahead of the game in 5G. It's largely a reason many countries are giving the USA the finger when told they shouldn't do business with Huawei.
Follow the money. He who controls and builds the 5G network stands to gain a huge economic advantage. 4G added $100m to the GDP of the countries which produced it, 5G is expected to increase that 10 fold.
